Originally from West Jefferson, NC, Jonathan Fowler has nearly two decades of experience supporting independent primary care practices. Not only has he helped generate more than $5 million in shared savings, but he has also consistently driven annual revenue growth of 40% to 50%.
A graduate of the prestigious N.C. School of Science and Mathematics, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Peace, War and Defense from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In his previous role, Jon executed the Key Physicians’ strategy to protect and empower independent primary care, strengthening and supporting 370 clinicians across 70 locations. In his first year alone, he reduced association member expenses by more than $1 million while increasing practice revenue.
Jon has played a pivotal role in expanding independent primary care networks, overseeing recruiting, facilities, IT, contracting, value based care, and revenue cycle management. Under his leadership, one group experienced a 20-fold increase in providers, revenue, and practice locations—all while maintaining positive cash flow and no debt. He also led to a 4-fold revenue increase through acquisition at a private equity backed single TIN aggregation project.
Jon was an early leader in Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition, value-based care, and cloud-based EHR adoption.
He also contributed to improving surgical suite productivity, efficiency, and provider satisfaction through technology in the specialty hospital setting at UNC Children’s and the School of Medicine. He is passionate about custom health plan design for employers and high quality, cost effective primary care for employees.
Away from the office, you’ll find him playing guitars and other musical equipment, picking strawberries at the family farm, building computers, and hiking the wonderful nature preserves around the Raleigh area. He might even discuss Star Wars canon with you if you get him started.
“I’m inspired and entertained by the miracle of life unfolding all around us all the time. It’s beautiful to stop for a minute and marvel at how everything is connected to everything else,” he said.
