Can Sinus Problems Cause Dizziness? 3 Considerations
You’re familiar with the pounding headaches, runny nose and pressure that plague anyone with sinus problems. But what about dizziness? Does the room spin when you get up?
Have you ever wondered, ‘Can sinus problems cause dizziness?’ We’ll take a closer look at this issue and –most importantly– tell you what it means for you.
“When you’re struggling with a sinus infection, dizziness may not be the first thing that comes to your mind,” said Dr. Jones. “But it is possible. If you’re having this problem, it’s important for you to schedule an appointment so we can determine whether your sinuses problems are the source or if it is caused by another condition.”
Can My Sinus Problems Cause Dizziness?
They certainly can, but in order to fully understand the issue, you need to take a closer look at how your sinuses function and the role they play in your health.
Your sinuses are mostly air. These connected cavities between your eyes and nose humidify the air you breathe. They also secrete mucus, which protects you from dirt and other allergens in the air.
But as you know, the sinuses can also be the source of many problems–and sometimes dizziness is one of them.
When your sinuses are inflamed, they can put pressure on your Eustachian tube. The Eustachian tube connects the middle ear to the back of your nose and throat, and it’s instrumental in equalizing pressure between the inner and outer ear. The inner ear is a key element in helping you keep your balance.
When inflammation causes problems with the Eustachian tube, there is a change in pressure in the inner ear, which can create issues with balance.

Can sinus problems cause dizziness? Yes, they can, but so can other diseases.

How Can I Find Relief From Sinus Pain and Pressure?
A sinus infection can really slow you down. Everything seems like a major undertaking while it makes you miserable. That’s why, at Raleigh Adult Medicine, we’ll relieve these problems and get you back to your regular routine as soon as possible.
If allergies are the source of chronic sinus infections, we can utilize immunotherapy (“allergy shots”) to desensitize you to the allergens that are the source of your distress.

How Do You Get Rid of Dizziness From Sinuses?
When the sinus pressure is relieved, your dizziness should subside. Sinus treatment may include over-the-counter medication or even prescription medicine. Other at home treatments, such as nasal rinses or use of steam/highly humidified air, can help with discomfort and relieve pressure. At your appointment, we’ll discuss the possible benefits of using nasal sprays to reduce inflammation.
